Jolt! by Phil Cooke is a well-written basic overview of personal and professional development approaches.
I enjoyed reading the book as Phil was able to maintain my attention throughout the entire reading. To find a book that is well written but at the same time balanced, and over material that many who read these types of books like myself on a regular basis and still stay engaged in over the long haul of reading the book says something about the author. Phil does a great job in integrating a myriad of resources and references into his writing, and in doing so it doesn’t make you doze away.
The chapters are written on topics such as: change, setting priorities, personal growth, creativity, and confidence; just to name a few. Basically, 25 “points” to help those needing a change in direction in life.
The book does present some light Biblical principles to good living, somewhat discreetly written in “laymen” terms; in other words, not stressing relationship with God as much as maybe I felt could have been accomplished in a book like this with this type of platform. His suggestions are helpful and accurate though.
I would recommend this book to everyone as it is an easy and enjoyable read with practical and helpful tips for keeping up with the change in this world without losing any creativity.
In the book’s closing, Phil Cooke encourages readers to reread the chapters that apply most to the challenging moments in their lives. My recommendation is to read this book for a great overview of personal growth topics and then to find more detailed resources for the specific areas where you are facing challenges.
